Gram Bangla Tubes Ltd (GBTL) manufactures GP (pre-galvanized) round and box pipe by electric resistance welding (ERW) of pre-galvanized steel strip in Sonargaon, Narayanganj, Bangladesh, in sizes from 12 to 165 mm OD.

GP pipe is formed from steel strip that is zinc coated before forming, so the finished pipe carries a zinc layer without a separate galvanizing step. GBTL makes GP round pipe from 12 to 165 mm OD and GP box pipe in square and rectangular sections from 12 to 165 mm. Both run 0.6 to 2.3 mm wall. Outdoors, protect the cut ends and the weld seam to keep the coating continuous.

Standard GP pipe is sold through GBTL district dealers, with mill direct orders from 20 MT. A daily GP pipe mill rate is published on the GBTL price page and in the online shop. Where a heavier zinc layer is needed inside and outside, GBTL GI pipe is hot dip galvanized after forming, up to 300 mm OD.

What is GP pipe?

GP pipe is pre-galvanized steel pipe. The zinc coating goes onto the steel strip before the pipe is formed and welded, so the pipe leaves the ERW line already coated. GBTL makes GP pipe as round pipe and as square and rectangular box pipe for construction in Bangladesh.

What sizes of GP pipe does GBTL make?

GBTL makes GP round pipe from 12 to 165 mm OD and GP box pipe from 12 to 165 mm. Wall thickness on both runs from 0.6 to 2.3 mm. For larger sizes or heavier walls, GBTL MS pipe and GI pipe go up to 300 mm OD and 8.0 mm wall.

What is the difference between GP pipe and GI pipe?

GP pipe is made from strip that is galvanized before forming, while GI pipe is hot dip galvanized after forming. GI pipe therefore carries a heavier zinc layer inside and outside, including on the weld seam. GBTL makes GP pipe from 12 to 165 mm OD and GI pipe from 12 to 300 mm OD.

Can GP pipe be used outdoors?

Yes, GP pipe can be used outdoors when the cut ends and the weld seam are protected. The zinc layer comes from the strip, so bare steel is exposed only where the pipe is cut or welded. For unpainted outdoor or water use, GBTL GI pipe carries a heavier zinc layer.
