What to specify
Gauge guide: mm to SWG for furniture tube
If you order furniture tube by gauge, use this conversion. 0.8 mm is about 21 SWG, 0.9 mm about 20 SWG, 1.0 mm about 19 SWG and 1.2 mm about 18 SWG. A 1.5 mm wall sits between 17 and 16 SWG. A higher SWG number means a thinner wall. As a general guide, choose the heavier 1.2 or 1.5 mm walls for chair legs, seat frames and table frames. Light decorative parts, rails and trims can use 0.8 to 1.0 mm. Your design decides the final gauge.
Pre-galvanized (GP) vs cold rolled black tube
Cold rolled black tube is made from cold rolled strip. Its smooth, uniform surface makes it a good base for powder coating after pretreatment. Choose it when powder coating is the planned finish on the part. Pre-galvanized (GP) tube is made from strip that is zinc coated before the tube is formed. Choose GP when parts need a zinc coated surface, such as outdoor furniture. On outdoor GP parts, protect the cut ends and the weld seam.
Powder coat readiness
Every GBTL furniture tube size is powder coat ready, including the oval and D shape profiles. The surface suits powder coating after standard pretreatment. That pretreatment is degreasing, then phosphating or an equivalent process on your coating line. Plan this step for both cold rolled black and GP tube. Mention your coating process in the quote request, so GBTL can suggest the finish that fits your line.
Cut to length and bent components
GBTL cuts furniture tube to your lengths and deburrs the cut ends, so parts come ready for your jigs. List each cut length and quantity in your quote request. Standard mill length is confirmed on quote. From Q1 2027, GBTL adds CNC bending, punching and welded sub assemblies. You will then be able to order bent frames and punched parts made to your drawing. MOQ for bent and fabricated parts is set by drawing.
