How GI pipe pricing works

Every GI pipe price is weight × the day's ৳/kg mill rate. The mill publishes its rate on the online shop; the chart below gives the approximate weight of one 20 ft piece for the most common size/wall combinations, so you can price any order in seconds.

GI pipe weight chart — common sizes, per 20 ft piece
Size (OD) Inch Wall Weight / pc (20 ft)
OD 15 mm ≈ ⅝″ 2.00 mm ≈ 3.9 kg
OD 20 mm 2.00 mm ≈ 5.4 kg
OD 25 mm ≈ 1″ 2.30 mm ≈ 7.8 kg
OD 32 mm ≈ 1¼″ 2.30 mm ≈ 10.3 kg
OD 38 mm ≈ 1½″ 2.60 mm ≈ 13.8 kg
OD 50 mm ≈ 2″ 2.60 mm ≈ 18.5 kg
OD 63 mm ≈ 2½″ 3.00 mm ≈ 27.1 kg
OD 75 mm ≈ 3″ 3.00 mm ≈ 32.5 kg
OD 100 mm ≈ 4″ 4.00 mm ≈ 57.7 kg

Weights from the standard steel formula (OD − wall) × wall × 0.02466 kg/m × 6.096 m — approximate; actual mill weight governs. Price per piece = weight × today's ৳/kg rate. Page updated 2 July 2026.

Choosing right

GI, GP or plain MS — which one for the job?

The three families are the same steel underneath — the difference is the zinc. Plain MS is the budget choice for painted indoor structures. GP carries a light, factory-applied zinc layer that keeps its finish in dry service — furniture, grilles, display frames. GI is dipped in molten zinc after forming, coating welds and cut edges too; that heavier armour is why plumbers and site engineers specify GI for water lines, rooftop work, scaffolding and anything buried or permanently wet. Rule of thumb: if it will ever see water for weeks at a time, pay the GI premium — replacing a corroded line costs far more than the coating did.

Common questions

GI pipe price FAQ

What is the GI pipe price in Bangladesh today?

GI (hot-dip galvanised) pipe is priced per kg at the mill rate Gram Bangla Tubes publishes each working day. Because the rate moves with the steel and zinc markets, check today's rate on the online shop or call +88 01907 084 261 — a piece price is simply the pipe's weight × today's ৳/kg rate.

What is the 1 inch GI pipe price in Bangladesh?

A 1 inch GI pipe (OD 25 mm × 2.30 mm wall) weighs about 7.8 kg per 20 ft piece. Multiply that weight by the day's published ৳/kg GI rate on the shop to get the piece price — the mill confirms the exact total on your order.

How do I calculate GI pipe price per piece?

Three steps: (1) weight per metre (kg) = (OD − wall) × wall × 0.02466, with OD and wall in mm; (2) multiply by 6.096 for a 20 ft piece; (3) multiply by today's ৳/kg mill rate. Example: OD 50 mm × 2.60 mm weighs about 18.5 kg per piece — multiply 18.5 by the day's published ৳/kg rate on the shop for the piece price.

What is the difference between GI and GP pipe?

GI pipe is hot-dip galvanised after forming — a thick zinc coat for water lines, outdoor and buried service. GP pipe is rolled from pre-galvanised coil — a lighter zinc layer, ideal for indoor frames, furniture and light structures. GI costs more per kg but lasts much longer in wet service.

Is GI pipe good for water supply lines?

Yes — hot-dip galvanised pipe is the standard choice for water distribution in Bangladesh because the zinc layer resists internal corrosion. Gram Bangla Tubes makes GI pipe from OD 12 mm to 300 mm with walls from 1.00 mm to 8.00 mm, certified to ISO 9001:2015 with BSTI and BUET testing.

What sizes of GI pipe are available factory-direct?

OD 12 mm to 300 mm, wall thickness 1.00 mm to 8.00 mm, in standard 20 ft lengths — order online at the day's mill rate or call +88 01907 084 261 for bulk and project pricing.
